Better Focus: Better Vision (Exercises for eyes)

The world is beautiful, and to sense its beauty by vision, we have a wonderfully designed compact camera like organ called an eyes. Day-to-day stress, health issues, and pollution cause strain to the eye.

According to a survey in 2022, there are more than 90 percent of people in India from age 55+ who usually wear glasses, and for children aged 4 to 11 years, this was 14 percent. Some exercises are known as “eye exercise or eye yoga” to relive the eye stress. Here are some facts about eye yoga:

  • It doesn’t solely improve eyesight or vision.
  • It doesn’t help with dark circles.
  • It may not cure dry eyes or glaucoma.
  • Eye yoga is not crucial to perform after cataract surgery.

Studies prove that the above facts are completely true to date. However, eye exercises may help with eye strain, and feeling less stress around the eyes surely will aid in better focus on the object. Some exercises are described below:

1. Blinking

  • Sit straight, open your eyes wide and do fast blinks 10 to 15 times.
  • Now close your eyes and relax then repeat this.
  • It might help with dryness at some point.

2. Eyes rolling

  • Sit on a chair or mat and inhale; slowly shift your gaze on the ceiling and focus.
  • Now roll your gaze towards right and focus to all the things placed on your right hand site.
  • Shift your sight to the ground and then left side. Now try anticlockwise.
  • Repeat this 2-3 times as a beginner.
  • This rolling can be done by following the path to draw a large ‘8’ figure on the wall, it will also help in flexibility and focus.

3. Focus shifting

  • Sit tall and move out your palm with thumbs up position.
  • Focus on the thumb and move thumb towards right with your gaze then shift to the center Better Focus: Better Visionand left side.
  • Do this several times and try to move only your eyes not head.

4. Eyes palming

  • Rub your palms till it gets warm, and then cup your eyes. Fingers on forehead and palms over the eyes & cheeks.
  • Breathe in and out.
  • Try to clear your mind and relax. Repeat it 3-4 times.
  • This exercise is also a daily practice of our elders to start the morning with palming eyes.
